BE LIKE THE RIVER I’d give my world to fall around you to know the secret of your ways I am so fortunate I found you I have been waiting here for days but I know there is no reason and I know there is no rhyme with the changing of the seasons we are running out of time be like the river run to the sea I am sure every day there is somewhere else to be we’re all fish in the ocean but we are free come on be like the river run run run run to the sea be like the river and run to the sea you might fool them but you don’t fool me do you believe in destiny try as you like with all your might hold so tight you cannot fight be like the river run run run run to the sea

THEY DON’T CARE ABOUT US! I’ve watched them from the sidelines I’ve watched them on the field I’ve watched them play their dirty tricks leave wounds that never heal I’ve watched them from a taxi and seen them from a bus they don’t know I’m watching them for they don’t care about us they’ve got all the money they’ve got all the dope they take everything they want leave us with little hope but we are coming for them turn minus into plus they’ll see they’re on a losing streak if they don’t care about us they’ve already got your savings oh what was that you say they stole it from your top drawer when you looked the other way and they’ll be coming after you if you don’t make a fuss they’ll trap you in their sticky web for they don’t care about us but I’m getting confident that somewhere down the track we’re going to come together we’re going to take it back we’ll satisfy our hunger we’re gonna slake our thirst and we are going to make them care and make them put us first and they will care they will care about us

Always 03:37
ALWAYS I’ll love you always I’ll love you all days I cannot tell you what you mean to me I see you wander away out yonder I cannot wait ‘till you return to me and in the days when we are not together and in days of grey stormy weather I will think of you dearly and your voice will whisper o’er the heather I cannot tell you what you mean to me you will always be the lover that I cling to be the silent muse that I sing to and when you are near me there’s a sleepy valley bell that rings true I cannot tell you what you mean to me

In Your Arms 04:18
In Your Arms I lost it for a little while, I found it where the river flows I found it where the tall grass grows I found it in your arms I only lost it for a while and then I found it in your smile a smile that always did beguile I found it in your arms I didn’t know what time it was but I looked up and there it was and I was on a high because I found it in your arms I searched up high I searched down low and I searched in the afterglow of love made deep and love made slow and love made in your arms I never thought I’d get that far away I never thought that I could go astray I never thought the time would come to pray but now I’m in your arms I’m here to stay well I thought I had it all worked out I thought that there could be no doubt I thought that I would twist and shout but I found in your arms It wasn’t black it wasn’t white but somewhere in between that night I thought I’d never get it right but it was in your arms hang me up or tie me to a tree go on fill my cup I’ll drink it cheerfully and I’ll there there before you count to three ‘cause in your arms is where I want to be so take my hand the future’s bright let’s head on out towards the light I know that paradise just might be found there in your arms I lost it for a little while, I found it where the river flows I found it where the tall grass grows I found it in your arms

MY FATHER AND ME we sailed out to sea my father and me we rowed from the shore and we shouldered our oar and the white sail did blaze from the sun in the sky we sailed out to sea my father and I we were men of the ocean, the wind and the sky the shore disappeared and we sailed on alone the lines were thrown out and the fish came along along with the wind and my father’s deep song and the grey sea did rage and my father was gone gone to the sea in the blink of an eye there was no time to mourn there was no time to cry and I knew in my heart it could not the the same and into the cruel wind I cried out his name gone to the sea in the blink of an eye there was no time to mourn there was no time to cry and l knew in my heart it could not be the same and into the cruel wind I cried out his name we sailed out to sea my father and me we sailed out to sea

I RAN (SO FAR AWAY) I walked along the avenue I never thought I’d meet a boy like you with auburn hair and tawny eyes the kind of eyes that hypnotise me through and I ran I ran so far away I just ran I ran all night and day couldn’t get away a cloud appears above your head a beam of light comes shining down on you the cloud is moving nearer still aurora borealis comes in view and I ran I ran so far away I just ran I ran all night and day couldn’t get away reached out a hand to touch your face it’s slowly disappearing from my view reached out a hand to try again I’m floating in a beam of light with you and I ran I ran so far away I just ran I ran all night and day and I ran I ran so far away I just ran I ran all night and day couldn’t get away

THE OLD MACLEAY As I was walking on The Old MacLeay The breeze was blowin’ and the leaves were swayin’ The only thing I that I had on my mind Why did I ever leave you behind? The cormorant dries his wings in the sun Way back there where I started my run Kingfisher darts through a gap in the trees He makes his way into God’s masterpiece There’s a place in my heart By the banks of the Old MacLeay The sky has turned gold, and I’m making my way Down through the sheoaks to the place my heart was lost Buried there somewhere on the Old MacLeay The big river winds like a lazy brown snake Down through the flood plains down Chinchilla way In the heart of the world it has started to rain All I can think of is to be near you again So it’s all hands on deck lads, anchors aweigh Tide’s rushing out and we’ve outrun our stay Though in the west there’s a star burning bright And the lay of the land is a glorious sight There’s a place in my heart By the banks of the Old MacLeay The sky has turned gold as I make my way Down through the sheoak trees to the place my heart was lost It’s buried there, somewhere, on the Old MacLeay.

MICK SLOCUM

Mick is recognised as one of Australia’s leading folk musicians with his virtuoso accordion and concertina playing as well as his well-honed mouth organ skills. He is also an accomplished singer and an extraordinarily talented live performer.

Mick’s credits go back to the landmark band The Bushwackers (arguably Australia’s greatest electric folk band) and The Sundowners.

Mick has toured internationally and, of course, around Australia over many years.

Straight Shooters was produced in conjunction with one of Australia’s leading engineers/sound producers Doug Brady from Furstock Studios and features a lush and at times surprising, soundscape which is both technically brilliant as well as creatively outstanding.
